Holiday Cottages in Whitby
Jewel in the Crown of the Yorkshire Coast
On the banks of the River Esk, with it's back to the North York Moors and facing out to sea, Whitby is a magical place to visit. The town itself has a long history as a sea port and fishing community and its most famous son, the explorer Captain James Cook is commemorated throughout the town.
Several boats offer trips out to sea including bay trips, sunset cruises and longer sailings along the coast to the quaint fishing village of Staithes. Alternatively, take a trip on a mini replica of Captain Cook's "Endeavour", or climb aboard the replica of The Grand Turk, moored in Whitby harbour.
There are plenty of things to keep the family occupied in Whitby. Visit the old cobbled streets in the historic old town where you'll find plenty of unique shops offering local crafts, maritime memorabilia and antiques. There are also plenty of options for eating and drinking, with fine pubs, fish and chip shops and some excellent restaurants.
